The snore-canceling nose strips that gave me a good night’s sleep after three years (and saved my marriage)

I was at my wit’s end.

I was sitting in our bed at 2AM in the morning. I was holding our screaming 4-month-old baby boy and my husband, David, was lying next to me, snoring like a jackhammer.

I hadn’t slept through a single night for three years, and I was seriously considering a divorce.

It may sound ridiculous, I know. But when you only get a couple of hours of sleep a night for three years, you lose your ability to think clearly.

“I love my husband, but the lack of sleep made me despise him.”

David had always snored a little. He’d wake me up every now and then, but when I poked him, it would always stop. But somehow, in three years, it went from snoring sometimes to snoring consistently through periods (like winter) to snoring consistently all year around.

I love my husband, but the lack of sleep made me despise him.

It had gotten to a point where I decided to sleep in a separate room with our son. David wasn’t happy about it, and I admit, I wasn’t keen, either. But having a baby and a husband who snores like a lumber mill all night had completely ruined deep sleep for me.

I’m a downright monster when I’m not well-rested, so it was as much for his and our family’s protection as it was for my own sanity.

But I knew this couldn’t go on forever. As you can imagine, sleeping in separate rooms had taken its toll on our marriage. So, when our son could finally sleep through the night, we decided to give it another go.

Vain attempts to stop my husbands snoring and save our marriage

We really wanted to sleep in the same bed again, but the snoring had to stop. So we started looking into different solutions.

Trying to mask my husband’s snoring with white noise is about as useful as kissing a frog.

First, I tried some really expensive noise cancelling earplugs that a friend recommended who lives next to a busy road. But they can only do so much when you’re sleeping next to a jackhammer.

Then, we tried to sleep with white noise. But trying to mask my husband’s snoring with white noise is about as useful as kissing a frog.

I even convinced David to go to a sleep clinic to find out if he had sleep apnea. But they couldn’t find any issues. He was also seen by an ENT who said his sinuses were fine. The only thing the doctor could suggest was trying a CPAP machine.

“I started to accept my fate that I’d never ever get a good night’s sleep again.”

It’s a machine that blows air into your airways through a mask while you’re sleeping, making it impossible to snore. But as it didn’t look too comfortable, we would’ve been back to square one.

I wasn’t looking to fix my problem at the cost of ruining sleep for my husband. I was determined to find a solution that would work for both of us so that we can get back to normal and fix our marriage.

But I was running out of solutions and the tension kept growing at home. I started to accept my fate that I’d never get a good night’s sleep again…

…when a fortunate incident changed everything and, I dare say, saved our marriage.

Again, it may sound like I’m exaggerating. But like I said, when you’re so sleep-deprived, you lose your ability to think clearly.

But let me explain.

The fortunate incident that changed everything

It was my first day back at work after our son was born. As usual, I’d only had a few hours of sleep the night before and I felt exhausted. I was sitting at my desk, nodding off, when my co-worker, Julie, said to me:

“Oh, you poor thing, is your little boy still not sleeping through the night?”

I was so tired that it took me a few seconds to realize that I’d nodded off and answer Julie:

“Oh, no,” I said as I was opening my eyes. “It’s my husband’s snoring that keeps me awake all night.”

Without saying a word, Julie grabbed her bag, pulled out something that looked like a box of band-aids, and handed it to me.

“Here, take these and thank me later.”

I looked at her with my eyebrows raised… then looked at the box which said:

“Hiloi Nasal Strips”

Confused, I looked at Julie again.

We’d struggled for years… we had tried expensive ear plugs… and even more costly medical checks. Was I supposed to believe that a few strips costing a couple of bucks would end all our misery?

Besides, I had looked up nasal strips online before, but the reviews didn’t convince me. Most of them complained about the same thing:

“Don’t stay on for long, waste of money.”

But Julie wouldn’t let it go. “I’d also tried several other brands before that wouldn’t stick,” she said. “But these ones stay on all night. The secret is to remove all oil and dirt from the skin and dry it properly before applying.”

She could still see some doubt on my face, so she added:

“When you fall asleep while driving, it’s no longer a joke.”

“Look, you can take these for free so you’ve got nothing to lose. Falling asleep at work is one thing. But when you fall asleep while driving - which I almost did when I was going through the same - it’s no longer a joke.”

As you can probably imagine, I ignored Julie’s advice. After all, we’d tried everything before, including expensive medical checks, and nothing helped. It was only weeks later, when I had an important deadline coming up at work, that I finally dug Julie’s “magic” strips out of the closet.

And boy, am I happy I did!

“Did I just sleep through the night?”

At first, David was skeptical, so it took a bit of convincing. But he agreed in the end and we went to bed that night as usual. When I woke up the next morning, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

There was daylight!

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d gone to bed at night and only woke up when the sun was up. I sat up in bed, turned to David, and asked him with my jaw dropped:

“Did I just sleep through the night?”

My mind was boggled. I had to do some research online to find out how this little strip could fix the problem in one night that even the doctors couldn’t for years.

Improves airflow passage in the nostrils to help reduce snoring

Hiloi Nasal Strips are like tiny plasters that you can put on your nose. They have a simple design and strong adhesion so they stick on easily. We’ve been using them for months now and never had any issues with them coming off.

The way the strip works is that its flexible wings open up your nostrils with a spring-like motion. This prevents your nostrils from getting blocked and improves airflow passage into your lungs instantly, which can help you to breathe at ease and get rid of snoring.

Such a simple and inexpensive, yet effective solution!

Helps with stuffy nose due to a cold or allergies

Hiloi Nasal Strips don’t only help with snoring. They can also be used in addition to medication when you have a stuffy nose due to a cold or allergies.

A couple of weeks ago, I caught a cold and used the strips at night. When my nose is blocked, I tend to breathe through my mouth while sleeping. Even if I use a nasal spray, I usually wake up with a dry and often sore throat in the morning. Not ideal when you already feel unwell. But that wasn’t the case with the Hiloi strips.

I woke up well-rested, without a blocked nose or a sore throat.

Helps you to lead a fit and mindful lifestyle

When I told my mom about the Hiloi Nasal Strips , she immediately bought a box to try them out. She’d been wanting to start meditation and doing exercises to keep fit, but she found it hard to breathe properly when resting, let alone when doing sports or breathing exercises.

She kept putting it off, until she went to a yoga class with a Hiloi strip on, and found that breathing was no longer an issue. She even started taking our son for long walks on weekends, which would’ve been a no-no before.

How to use Hiloi Nasal Strips

Hiloi Nasal Strips are easy to apply and comfortable to use. To apply the strips:

  • 1. First, wash and dry your nose thoroughly. Make sure that all oil and dirt is removed from the skin.
  • 2. Then, remove the protective layer from the strip and stick it on your nose as shown in the picture. Press it gently until the strip sticks to your nose.
  • 3. You can use Hiloi Nasal Strips for up to 12 hours, every day or every night. Make sure to use each strip once and externally only.
  • 4. To remove, wash your face with lukewarm water and loosen each end. Gently lift both sides.
